Inositol used to be classified as a member of the B vitamin family, but because we make some of it and therefore is not-essential, it has been re-classified. Technically, it's a type of sugar alcohol, similar in structure to something like xylitol

Myo-inositol is an isomer of inositol. Isomers all have the same molecular structure, but have different bends and shapes to their bond angles. In the myo-inositol form, the body can determine what shape it prefers and change it as it needs.
